Description
Solid brass, slipped over the end
A quiet upgrade that lasts for decades. Turned from solid brass with a closed base, this round cap slips over the end of a round furniture leg, a chair arm, a walking stick or any round timber — shielding the wood from wear while adding the weight and warmth of real metal. The closed base hides the end grain and lets the foot sit flat. Polished by hand, it catches the light softly.
Why solid brass
- Solid brass, not plated — a 1.5 mm wall of solid brass through and through. No plating to flake, chip or peel.
- Round, for round legs — the simple cylindrical profile for chairs, tables, stools and walking sticks with straight (non-tapered) legs.
- Closed base — one end is sealed, covering the end grain and giving a flat, stable face.
- Protects and tidies — it takes floor-contact wear instead of your timber, and makes a cut or chipped leg end look deliberate.
- 37 sizes in stock — outer diameters 18–60 mm, so most round legs and shafts are covered.
- No fixings — it slides on and is held with glue. No screws, no visible hardware.
A finish that ages into something better
Left unlacquered, every cap develops its own patina. In the first weeks the bright gold warms to a soft honey tone, then deepens over the months into the mellow antique bronze collectors love — never dull, never flaking, just richer with time. It is the opposite of plated hardware that chips and peels. Prefer the shine? A quick wipe with brass polish (or lemon juice and salt) brings the original gleam straight back. The patina is entirely yours to keep or reset.
How to choose your size
These caps slide over the end of a round leg or shaft. Measure your timber’s diameter, then pick the cap whose inner diameter is closest — the same, or up to about 0.5 mm larger. Inner diameter = outer diameter − 3 mm (1.5 mm wall on each side). For ROUND (cylindrical) legs only — on a tapered or conical leg the cap sits loose and stops part-way. Between two sizes, take the larger and bed it in wood glue or two-part epoxy, or sand the leg a fraction.

Care
Brass darkens naturally with handling and air — most buyers want exactly that, a warm antique tone over the first months. To restore the shine, wipe it with brass polish, or a soft cloth and a little lemon juice and salt. Avoid abrasive pads, which scratch the polished surface. On delicate flooring, add a self-adhesive felt pad under the base.

FAQ
- Do I need to cut the leg? Often not. Round caps slip over the existing end, so as long as the leg end is square and the diameter matches you can fit without cutting. If the cap is a touch large, sand the leg a fraction or bed it in glue.
- Will the brass tarnish? Yes, naturally, deepening to a warm antique tone. This is normal and reversible: polish and the shine returns. We leave it unsealed so the patina develops.
