Description
Solid brass, seated on the floor
A quiet upgrade that lasts for decades. Turned from solid brass with a closed bottom, this square foot cup slips over the end of a square wooden furniture leg and seats the leg on a solid brass base. Unlike an open ferrule, the cup’s base rests directly on the floor, so it both finishes the leg end and shields the flooring beneath from scratches, dents and moisture. Satin brushed by hand, it reads as a soft, even matte rather than a mirror shine.
Why solid brass
- Solid brass, not plated — a 1.8–2.0 mm wall of solid brass through and through. No plating to flake, chip or peel.
- Square, for square legs — the straight square profile for tables, chairs, stools, sideboards and cabinet legs with a square (non-tapered) section.
- Closed bottom — a solid brass base caps the cup, so the leg sits inside and the brass base meets the floor. It protects the floor from scratches and the leg end from moisture, while giving the foot a clean, weighted finish. Held in place with glue.
- Protects and tidies — it hides a chipped, cut or worn leg end and gives the foot a finished collar and base.
- 3 sizes in stock — outer sides 34, 36 and 48 mm (square profile, so length = width), so common square furniture legs are covered.
- No fixings — it slips on and is held with adhesive. No screws, no visible hardware.
A finish that ages into something better
Left unlacquered, every cup develops its own patina. In the first weeks the bright gold warms to a soft honey tone, then deepens over the months into the mellow antique bronze collectors love — never dull, never flaking, just richer with time. It is the opposite of plated hardware that chips and peels. Prefer the original look? A quick wipe with brass polish (or lemon juice and salt) brings the gleam straight back. The patina is entirely yours to keep or reset.
How to choose your size
All sizes listed are OUTER measurements of the brass cup (the outside of the square). The cup slips over your leg, so the number you match is your leg’s outer side — and it must be smaller than the cup’s inner opening. The inner opening = cup outer side − 2 × wall thickness (1.8–2.0 mm per side). To choose: measure your square leg across one flat side (its outer width), then pick the cup whose outer side is about 1–3 mm larger, giving an inner opening roughly 0–1.5 mm bigger than your leg. For SQUARE (non-tapered) legs only — on a tapered or rounded leg the cup sits loose. Between two sizes, take the larger and bed it in wood glue or two-part epoxy, or sand the leg a fraction. The closed base means the leg does not pass through, so no cutting is needed — the leg simply seats into the cup.
| Outer L × W (mm) | Wall (mm) | Height (mm) | Fits square leg up to |
|---|---|---|---|
| 34 × 34 | 2.0 | 25 | 30 × 30 mm (1.18") |
| 36 × 36 | 1.8 | 36 | 32 × 32 mm (1.28") |
| 48 × 48 | 2.0 | 60 | 44 × 44 mm (1.73") |
These are OUTER dimensions. Suitable leg outer side = cup outer side − 2 × wall thickness. Example: a 34 × 34 × 25 × 2.0 mm cup has a 30 × 30 mm inner opening and fits a square leg up to 30 × 30 mm.

Care
Brass darkens naturally with handling and air — most buyers want exactly that, a warm antique tone over the first months. To restore the brightness, wipe it with brass polish, or a soft cloth and a little lemon juice and salt. Avoid abrasive pads, which scratch the brushed surface. On delicate flooring, the closed brass base already spreads the load; add a self-adhesive felt pad if you wish extra protection.

FAQ
- Do I need to cut the leg? No. The cup has a closed base and the leg simply seats into the open top, so as long as the leg end is square and the inner opening matches you can fit without cutting. If it is a touch large, sand the leg a fraction or bed it in glue.
- Will the brass tarnish? Yes, naturally, deepening to a warm antique tone. This is normal and reversible: polish and the shine returns. We leave it unsealed so the patina develops.
