Description
Solid brass, slipped over the end
A quiet upgrade that lasts for decades. Turned with a taper, this solid brass cap fits over the end of a tapered furniture leg — shielding the wood from wear while adding the weight and warmth of real metal. It has a closed base, so the end grain stays hidden and the foot sits flat. Polished by hand, it catches the light softly.
Why solid brass
- Solid brass, not plated — a 1.0–1.5 mm wall through and through. No plating to flake, chip or peel.
- Tapered, for tapered legs — the classic profile for mid-century, Danish and Windsor furniture.
- Closed base — one end is sealed, covering the end grain and giving a flat, stable face.
- Protects and tidies — it takes floor-contact wear instead of your timber.
- 15 sizes in stock — inner diameters 17.4–44.4 mm, so most tapered legs are covered.
- No fixings — it slides on and is held with glue. No screws, no visible hardware.
A finish that ages into something better
Left unlacquered, every cap develops its own patina. In the first weeks the bright gold warms to a soft honey tone, then deepens over the months into the mellow antique bronze collectors love — never dull, never flaking, just richer with time. It is the opposite of plated hardware that chips and peels. Prefer the shine? A quick wipe with brass polish (or lemon juice and salt) brings the original gleam straight back. The patina is entirely yours to keep or reset.
How to choose your size
Measure your leg at the very end and where the wide opening reaches — you need both the wide inner diameter and the narrow inner diameter, plus the height the cap should cover. These caps are tapered inside, so each size fits a range of leg diameters; pick the one whose inner Ø is closest — the same, or up to about 0.5 mm larger. For TAPERED (conical) legs only — on a straight cylindrical leg the cap stops part-way and sits loose. Between two sizes, take the larger and bed it in wood glue or two-part epoxy, or sand the leg a fraction. Trim the leg shorter and cut the end square first, so the cap slides all the way on and the closed base reaches the floor.
Size & fit guide
Each cap is tapered inside. Match the wide inner Ø to your leg’s diameter where the cap’s top rim will sit, and the narrow inner Ø to your leg’s diameter at the very tip. Both numbers must line up — that is what makes a tapered leg sit snug instead of rocking.

Care
Brass darkens naturally with handling and air — most buyers want exactly that, a warm antique tone over the first months. To restore the shine, wipe it with brass polish, or a soft cloth and a little lemon juice and salt. Avoid abrasive pads, which scratch the polished surface. On delicate flooring, add a self-adhesive felt pad under the base.

FAQ
- Do I need to cut the leg? Usually yes, a little. The closed base has to reach the floor, so trim the leg and cut the end square before fitting. The small hole in the base lets air escape (no vacuum lock) and gives you a fixing point.
- Will the brass tarnish? Yes, naturally, deepening to a warm antique tone. This is normal and reversible: polish and the shine returns. We leave it unsealed so the patina develops.
